Basalt

Basalt is a high-density volcanic natural stone known for its exceptional durability, low water absorption, and outstanding resistance to abrasion, frost, and weathering. It is ideal for infrastructure works, road paving, landscaping, retaining structures, architectural cladding, and other demanding outdoor applications where long-term performance is essential.

Key Characteristics

  • Flexural Strength : Extreme

  • Density : 28–30 kN/m³

  • Imbition coefficient : 0.3 ± 0.1 %

Recommended for:

  • Road paving for extremely heavy traffic, railway ballast, and stone setts for historic city centers

  • Maritime breakwaters and coastal defense structures subjected to intense wave impact

  • Retaining walls, wear-resistant cladding, and high-density structural applications

  • Curbstones, steps, urban landscaping elements, and premium paving

Not recommended for:

  • Lightweight elevated structures where the rock’s 3 t/m³ density is a critical factor

  • Insulating masonry or applications requiring high light or heat reflectance
